The Society of Sharing
is a non-profit organization. Its purpose is to recruit,
train and place volunteers to provide services to seniors
and disabled persons by home visiting, telephone support,
socialization groups and accompanying clients to appointments
or on errands.
The Society assists isolated adults. Often, loved
ones are left with very little human contact. Some
of them may be people with physical disabilities
who require various degrees of assistance. The Volunteer
fills a very special and important role, by reaching
out to the individual's need for both regular companionship
and a sense of belonging and understanding.
Volunteers assist individuals that may be at risk
living alone in the community and support caregivers.
The volunteer provides consistent support and is a
valuable member of a treatment team in situations where
the client is also receiving services from other community-based
organizations. This support promotes self-sufficiency
and helps to extend independent living in the community.
